Turbolaser in action.

Long Range Turbolaser (LRT)[]

Creator/Researcher[]

Galactic Alliance

Inception[]

About 40 ABY

Description[]

The modern LRT is slightly different than those that Darth Caedus used to burn Kashyyyk but the principle remains the same. The turbolaser is capable of hitting targets outside a standard turbolaser\\'s range. Compared to modern shields, however, the LRT is less powerful compared to the SRT.

History[]

The LRT, at its inception during the GA, required tremendous amounts of power, rendering it hard to utilize on the average ship. In the two hundred following years, refinements allowed the technology to consume less and less power. Eventually, it simply became easier for ships to have an array of LRT's compared to SRT's (Standard Range Turbolasers). This state continued for another one hundred years until about 400 ABY when a divergence was created. The SRT re-emerged as a common weapon due to its ability to utilize a new refinement of Tibanna gas and with it, an increased power output (see SRT). Weapon manufacturers, however, discovered that LRT's were incapable of higher energy outputs and thus became much less powerful compared when faced with modern shields. Despite this, it still continues to feature on most capital ships due to the range advantage.

Standard Range Turbolaser v2 (SRT v2)[]

Turbolaser2

Side profile.

Numerous

Inception[]

400 ABY

Description[]

The SRT v2 (generally referred to as the SRT) is slightly different from the SRT that characterized the Galactic Civil War. Utilizing a special refinement of Tibanna gas, the beam that emerges from the SRT is a blue as opposed to the traditional red or green. Also, the SRT has a greatly increased energy output (although it remains proportional in terms of damage due to increases in shielding as well as hull materials).

History[]

The divergence between the LRT and the SRT emerged around 400 ABY and the technology was improved during the years following.
